The PlayStation 5 has been difficult to find ever since launch, but it isn’t even the hottest gift option of 2020. Nintendo is once again dominating the Christmas season. The developer is having a major come back, with the Nintendo Switch still outselling even the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on release month. The only thing that can compete with Nintendo at this point is Nintendo themselves. Times don’t change and this Christmas Nintendo is still on top. This tip is for the parents: the Game & Watch is the hottest gift of 2020.
What Is A Game & Watch?
The Game & Watch was Nintendo’s first handheld device. The system came out in 1980 and has been a must-have ever since. The device is so popular, that its mascot, Mr. Game & Watch, was added to Super Smash Brothers Melee. The character joined the brawl before many highly requested characters, so this is a huge testament to his popularity. The handheld system also worked as a functional clock. This is a big deal, as it is almost impossible to know the time without a watch or clock. The games on the device are full of 2D personality and charm, and the PlayStation 5 just can’t compete even with HD graphics.
So Why Is It Trendy In 2020?
The Game & Watch has been re-released by Nintendo in a fresh golden design featuring the original Super Mario games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The original Mario side-scroller has never been possible to play in such a fashionable way. Old is gold in 2020, and with this sleek gold design, your kid can have more swag than a PlayStation 5 ever could ever bring. You can’t bring your PS5 to school, and you certainly can’t walk around rocking that swag in public. Only the Game & Watch makes your kid look and feel cool.
What do you think of the new Game & Watch release? Will you make the right call and get rid of your PlayStation 5 and turn it in for the hottest gift of 2020? If you are selling your PlayStation 5, please reach out to us through email, we will generously trade you a Game & Watch for it. You’re welcome! Merry Christmas everyone.
Sakurai is a genius in the world of gaming. The man has created Kirby, Super Smash Brothers, and revived Kid Icarus. Each of these games had a touch of genius and creativity that nothing else could ever come close to. Sakurai has proven that he is in a league of his own, and that he is completely irreplaceable. Today we will be interviewing Sakurai about the latest Super Smash Bros DLC and more. Our Masahiro Sakurai interview has the exclusive juice on future DLC characters, thoughts on Steve in smash, and frustrations with the job.
Masahiro Sakurai Exclusive Interview
Dr. Williams: Hello Sakurai, and thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to do this interview.
Sakurai: I didn’t take the time at all. I am working as we speak. I am using text-to-speech to communicate while I play as two characters at once.
Dr. Williams: Wow! That is incredibly impressive. I won’t waste any of your time then. Let’s get right into this. How do you feel about the reception of Master Chief coming to Super Smash Brothers?
Sakurai: Master Chief isn’t coming to Super Smash Brothers. We recently announced Steve from Minecraft, not Master Chief.
Dr. Williams: My apologies Sakurai. I heard a Microsoft legend was coming to Super Smash Brothers and I just assumed it was the legendary Master Chief. I think I even saw a photoshopped picture or something. Okay, so how do you feel about fan reception to Steve of mindcraft coming to Super Smash Brothers?
Fan Reception To Steve In Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
Sakurai: Minecraft, but yes the fans were incredibly ungrateful. No one seems to appreciate the work that went into changing every character and every stage to allow Steve’s block placing ability. If I had to do all of this work to add Geno, I am sure their would be headlines praising my hard work.
Dr. Williams: This seems incredibly unfair to you. The hard work you put into every title you work on is a testament to your abilities. Is it possible that you just make it look so easy? We know it isn’t easy, but it is likely that fans just don’t realize the monumental amount of work you pull off.
Sakurai: No way. They don’t care regardless. If Steve was a highly requested character by the hardcore fan base, they would have said I didn’t do enough. The ravenous fans would have said I did him an injustice. They would have asked that I design a fully open work with endless building customizations. My hard work is being under appreciated exclusively due to fans being butt hurt.
Dr. Williams: Why are these fans so butt hurt?
Sakurai: I believe many are butt hurt by Nintendo’s choice because it seems too political. Meaning, they believe Nintendo just wanted to money Steve and Minecraft can bring. These fans aren’t wrong though. That is exactly why Steve is in Super Smash Brothers.
Dr. Williams: Really? There is no real other significant reason?
Sakurai: Nope. It isn’t his legacy, or fan requests, or even moveset potential. It is literally just for money, and I had to rework every character and stage to make it happen.
Why There More Third-Party DLC Characters Than First-Party
Dr. Williams: Why would Nintendo not just have you add more of their own characters? They are all so charming and iconic, and have clearly defined traits with strong moveset potentials.
Sakurai: I think Nintendo is well aware that their characters don’t make money. Who would pay for Funky Kong or Hades? One of the 17,000 people who played Tropic Freeze or Kid Icarus Uprising? I wanted Hades in because I love Kid Icarus. Nintendo loves money more than I love Waddle Dee though, so my characters will likely never see the light of day.
Dr. Williams: Wow that is depression. Waddle Dee, Hades, and Funky Kong are my top requested characters. I guess I will just sit back and hope for my favorite third-party characters.
Sakurai: Don’t get too excited. The next four are just as triggering as Steve. I dread my job every day. I hope I make it to the end of 2021.
Dr. Williams: Wow, well thank you so much for your time. I wish you the best of luck.
Sakurai: Thank you very much for letting me vent. Have a lovely day.

Multiplayer is a beloved element in video games. The removal of local multiplayer from all upcoming games is a controversial, yet necessary decision. New World Health Organization guidelines include video games into social distancing rules. Therefore, the WHO has banned all developers, worldwide, from including local multiplayer in their video games. Since it has been a staple for so long, video games must evolve.
The Future of Gaming
Since party games have been a fan favorite for decades, these games will be missed most. Some examples include Mario Party, Super Smash Brothers, Jack Box Party Pack, Overcooked, the list goes on. Especially for video game giant Nintendo, their games will need major overhauls. The New Super Mario Bros series, known for multiplayer side-scrolling platforming, must now be solely single-player. In addition, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, and Mario Party are only allowed to have online play. Even Nintendo’s sequels to popular single-player games had multiplayer additions. Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin must remove all local multiplayer functionality.
In recent years, local multiplayer has surged with indie games. Jackbox, Gangbeasts, Overcooked, and Cuphead are some examples of indie games that succeeded because of their local multiplayer. With social distancing rules, these games are a thing of the past. Indie games must evolve to abide by these new guidelines.
Fighting games will never be the same. Street Fighter, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat can only have online multiplayer. This is the trend of move game genres anyway, but it seems like it will have a negative impact on the fighting genre in particular. With online multiplayer becoming the new norm, it’s suspected all games will create “battle royale” modes to keep the younger audience engaged. A 100 player free for all in Street Fighter sounds pretty unbearable, but we’ll find out.
There will not be a Nintendo Direct this week, and the reason is incredibly shocking. Rumor and speculation alike suggested that there would be a major Nintendo direct soon. The rumored video would announce Nintendo games for the 2020 holiday season. The new Nintendo Direct was planned for August 28th, but now it is cancelled. The shocking reason behind the lack of Nintendo related news is shocking for sure. The reason for the delay was a mystery till now. Nintendo delayed the direct due to a pandemic caused by a virus called covid-19. For anyone unaware, the virus has caused studios to close down and move to remote work. While safe, this major departure from conventional video game development has caused many delays in the gaming industry.
I Don’t Care About A Pandemic, Why Does The Nintendo Direct Have To Be Cancelled?
Safety isn’t the only reason the Nintendo Direct was cancelled. The other reason is that Nintendo just hates you. They want to see you cry and beg for a direct while they laugh from home. This reason is very understandable, as Animal Crossing New Horizons has made Nintendo very rich. Nintendo doesn’t care if you are bored at home during this pandemic. Safety and profits come first at Nintendo. If employees are safe, and profits are rising, then Nintendo doesn’t feel the need to create and broadcast a Nintendo direct. Everything will be okay. Life doesn’t revolve around Nintendo, and plenty of games will still release for the Nintendo Switch. The console already has an incredibly impressive library. Admit it, you have at least 7 untouched games, and 18 unfinished games, you can’t even handle Breath of the Wild 2 yet.
Realible World News will be sure to report if there isn’t a Nintendo Direct next week as well.
