A Day To Remember Release Pop Playlist On Spotify Called ‘You’re Welcome’

A Day to Remember have thrown a complete curveball within the music scene. Rather than releasing an album of original tunes, the band opted to release a playlist on Spotify. Playlists have become very popular. Many bands craft their tracks with Spotify playlists in mind. Securing a spot on a popular playlist can drastically increase monthly reviewers, play count, and other useful statistics within a band. A Day to Remember are once again trailblazing within their genre by cutting out the middle man and releasing a playlist themselves. The appropriately named playlist, ‘You’re Welcome’, compiles the most popular songs of the 2010s and throws them right back into the void.

What Songs Are Featured On The Playlist?

The playlist opens up with ‘Still Waiting’ by Sum 41. A great way to open up a fun summer playlist with some punk pop energy. The next couple of slots go to Imagine Dragons. I can see this becoming the soundtrack to any Dad’s commute to work. The fourth track on the playlist is an odd one. It is a match up of ‘Cursed’ by Gideon and ‘Better Now’ by Post Malone. Oddly enough it is actually really good. This fusion works and now I wish Post Malone would release a metalcore or hardcore record. The next song is a Tom Petty song called ‘F.Y.M’, and it is pretty catchy and fun. We don’t know what F.Y.M stands for, but I assume it is Fuck Your Mom. I can see Dads everywhere quitting their job and turning around after hearing this anti-job anthem. The next track is one for the pop fans. ‘Talk To Much’ by coin takes the sixth slot on the playlist. This chorus is catchy, and it almost sounds like three other existing songs.

The playlist continues in a similar vein to the previously established vibes. Additional appearances from Post Malone occur, as well as two Blink-182 tracks, and the closing track ‘Happy Ending’ by Avril Lavigne. The playlist isn’t bad, but after a five year wait, it seems that rehashing already exciting songs is a bit disappointing.

Why Did A Day To Remember Release A Playlist anyways?

The band is done making their own music it seems. Metalcore and pop punk are a young man’s game. The band is full of grown adults looking for real jobs. If the band wants to focus more on playlists and acting as a radio station, we can respect it. While the playlist wasn’t received well, I believe their is an audience for anything. Some reviewers even swear that the playlist just takes some time to grow on you. I look forward to hearing this playlist all over the radio.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe Review: Is Revisiting PNF-404 A Great Idea?

Pikmin 3 Deluxe released at the end of October for the Nintendo Switch. If this sounds game sounds familiar, that is because it is. The original game, Pikmin 3, released in North America back in August of 2013. It is only natural to wonder, is a seven year old game worth playing again? This can be a difficult question, because the answer lies within a struggle between nostalgia, pleasantness, and logic. This is our Pikmin 3 Deluxe review.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe: A Modern Review Of An Older Game

Pikmin 3 is technically a 7 year old game. The Switch port doesn’t even increase the graphic quality of the game. Does this mean it is a poor and lazy port? Not in the slightest. Nintendo has done something that is hard to grasp. They created a game so masterful on the Wii U, that it can appear again on a new console seven years later and no one bats an eye. I am not kidding, the game looks beautiful. This isn’t a jab against the graphical prowess of the Nintendo Switch, but a major complement to Nintendo for creating such a timeless game. Some of my colleagues were unaware that the game was a port. No one ever questioned the game’s age. I genuinely believe that there is no downside to porting Pikmin 3 over to the Switch. All it can do is make old fans happy again, and bring new fans in.

What Is In It For The Old Fans Though?

This is a difficult question as well. The answer lies behind how much you love co-op games, and how much replay value you can get from small quality of life improvements. I for one, am a huge fan of co-op games. Pikmin 3 is a very complicated and fast paced game, so I don’t recommend playing with a toddler or anything. However, this is also a strength towards the co-op functionality of this game. Pikmin 3 was meant to be co-op. I am more convinced than ever after playing through the game again with a qualified partner. Juggling between the three captains is easier and more efficient than ever, and being able to divide and conquer is a blast.

A Co-Op Masterpiece, Or A Tagged On Game Mode?

My partner and I typically divided the tasks based off of needing a certain Pikmin type. She would take blue Pikmin and flying Pikmin, since both can survive water terrain (by swimming or flying over it). I on the other hand would take more offensive breeds of Pikmin, such as the red and rock types. I often took the yellow Pikmin as well, but really it just came down to whether or not we needed electric fences destroyed, or if those pesky electric dog enemies were lurking.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe turned Pikmin 3 into potentially the best couch co-op game of all time. It is a wild and fun journey. Coordinating attack plans felt fun and energetic, and tons of laughs were had after tragic incidents (usually after the initial heat of the moment). Some of these incidents include myself accidentally throwing a Pikmin holding a bomb rock at a boss that currently was surrounded by all of our other Pikmin (this caused them all to blow up, oops). Another example of this includes my partner commanding her Pikmin to push a bowling ball down a hill. I unfortunately was running down that same hill, and 35 of our Pikmin were immediately killed. This may sound a bit too chaotic for some, but I assure you that it is a fun experience.

The Quality Of Life Additions

Pikmin 3 adds many quality of life additions that old fans will love, and new fans will never know were missing. Working Pikmin now require 2 whistle blows to call back, which is great for dividing up tasks, and the whistle size is increased which helps with some of the boss battles. Another helpful addition is increase in controller options. Fans of motion controls and gyro controls can still have their fun, but I really appreciated the competency of the Nintendo Switch pro controller. The game also features a fun little epilogue, which doesn’t add too much, but it is worth a playthrough.

Is Pikmin 3 Worth Playing Again?

This is the real question. While most initial buyers will likely be loyal Pikmin fans that have played Pikmin 3 before, eventually new players will flock to the game on the Nintendo Switch. So is the game worth playing again? I believe so. The game is charming and hasn’t aged a day. Typically we express more humor in our articles, but Pikmin 3 is a humorous and fun game in itself. I recommend revisiting PNF-404 with a friend, and enjoying in on all of the laughs and charm the game has to offer. My only complaints would be that the game is rather short, and the world is ready for Pikmin 4. Maybe soon?

Today we will be writing up a track-by-track POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR review. Bring Me The Horizon is one of the biggest heavy metal bands. Their song Throne has 192,602,315 plays on spotify and their album That’s The Spirit went billboard #2 in the United States and #1 in the UK. The bands has been riding this success ever since and they have shown no sign of slowing down. Their latest album AMO was more of a rock album, but it was good rock. What has Bring Me The Horizon been cooking up since? We have the latest scoop. Here is our review of POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR.

POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR -A Track-By-Track Review

Dear Diary:

Dear Diary has the title of a Taylor Swift song, but it is far from a Taylor Swift song. I turned on the first track and was immediately yelled at. Why is this guy yelling at me for giving his album a listen? I am confused, but intrigued. I don’t know what he is saying, but it sounds important. The vocalist seems to be ranting as if writing in a diary, and he seems to be losing his mind. The track is aggressive and scary, but I am still listening.

Parasite Eve

The song starts off with a wonderful chant, perhaps I misread this album. I can see this track being much more relaxing. After the chant a soft spoken verse starts. It sounds catchy and poppy, but with a dark edge. I can see this coming from the band that wrote Throne. A robotic female voices follows this verse, and it sounds like the world is ending.Right when I started to find the track a little too odd, a powerful chorus struck. This is like if Linkin Park had more grit into their later years. This chorus is a hit.

After the chorus the DOOM soundtrack invaded my ears. A wild and chaotic techno riff came out of no where, but I dig it. The song continues this pattern until a spoken word warning starts. I knew something crazy was going to happen next. The DOOM soundtrack strikes again, but this time the vocalist yells at me again. This band has changed into some sort of death metal band, but I am still on board.

Teardrops

The song starts with the vocalist saying the title and then Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park starts playing. It is an interesting start, and it sounds great. I feel like I just put in the Meteora CD. The verse also sounds like it would be from Meteora, but this isn’t a bad thing, as it doesn’t sound like a copy of an already existent song. The chorus is fantastic. This is what I have been waiting for. This is the band that wrote Throne. I consider this song a Throne sequel. It has that Meteora part 2 vibe and it kicks ass.

After the chorus the vocalist yelled at me again. I don’t know why he keeps doing this. He also said the F word when he yelled. It is still pretty cool though, and I feel like a metal head. This pattern continues until we get to some shouted bridge. I can dig it because it is short and sweet like at the end of a Linkin Park song. The death metal bridge is good, but the chorus coming back after is great. I think Teardrops will be the next Throne.

Obey (feat. Yungblood)

Did I accidentally switch from Linkin Park radio to Slipknot radio? The second I turn this song on my ears were obliterated by some major riffage. It is loud and epic, but not too scary. It works just fine. I thought the vocalist was going to keep singing, as the verse starts that way, but then he started yelling at me again. This time he yells similar to Slipknot. Slipknot has been yelling at me since the 90’s, but now in 2020 Bring Me The Horizon is here to yell at me. It isn’t over the top like in Dear Diary, but it is still pretty crazy.

The chorus soars. This is one of the best choruses yet. I feel like dancing, yet I also feel like punching someone. This feeling is confusing, but I will embrace it for this song. Now some weird guy is yelling at me. Apparently it is Yungblood. I don’t know why he is yelling at me, but that is okay too I suppose. The chorus plays again and I am still not sick of it.

After the chorus the vocalist whispers in a creepy way. Is the DOOM soundtrack coming to attack again? I guessed it. A deep demonic voice yelled at me this time. Satan himself just yelled at me and then played the DOOM soundtrack. Hell is now here. Once Bring Me The Horizon lets hell reside, the chorus comes back and I am stoked it hear it again. This sound is evil, but it makes me feel cool to listen to it. I do approve of this song.

Kingslayer (feat. BABYMETAL)

Kingslayer has an intro called Itch For The Cure and it is pretty cool. It is like if a public service announcement was an anime. Additionally it is like if Dance Dance Revolution gave out survival advice. It is great. Anime voices start speaking too, and it is kind of epic. Now the song Kingslayer is starting. The techno beat is catchy and energetic, I dig it. The vocalist yelled at me again, this time he didn’t even say an actual word. The verse is filled with electronic voices and demonic devil screams. The vocalist sounds so low that I cannot tell if this is a guest vocal by Satan himself. Is this the BABYMETAL guest appearance? I don’t know who BABYMETAL is, but I am guessing it is the low demon voice.

Now the anime character is singing again, but this time for the chorus. The anime character and BABYMETAL exchange vocal lines after the chorus. While the character is singing, BABYMETAL keeps doing their demonic Satan screams. This album has yelled at me more than my Dad and ex. wife combined. One of those angry ending parts are in this song as well, but this time with much more techno and anime. The electronic beat is fantastic though, and honestly the song gets me pumped. I am still a fan of this track, but it is no Throne. Throne is a heavy metal anthem, this song is a Dance Dance Revolution track.

1X1 (feat. Nova Twins)

This song is the Bring Me The Horizon I know. This song is a metal hit. Now this is the band that wrote Throne. If Teardrops is Throne 2, this is Throne 3. The song is like a mixture of top 40 r&b and heavy metal. The Nova Twins sound great. I am not sure who they are, but having a twin is cool, so good for them. The chorus hits hard, and the verses are beautiful. This is how you write a heavy metal song. The bridge doesn’t yell at out, and it is catchy and awesome like Papa Roach. I feel like the 90’s just came back but better than ever. The vocalist only yells are you once during this song. I am sure fans will be glad to not be yelled at this time.

Ludens

I don’t know what a Luden is, but I do know what Ludens is. This song is another one full of vibes. It sounds like if Linkin Park was into the vibes of 2020. This song was writing for a video game, and we previously reported that this song is too cool for gamers. I won’t review this song as I listen, because I have heard it before. It is great, and the yelling bridge at the end even fits. I imagine it fitting in an action packed video game. I have no bad things to say about Ludens. Honestly Ludens might even be Throne 4. It is a bit heavy compared to Throne, Throne 2, or Throne 3, but one yelling part won’t change the fact that this is indeed a heavy metal hit. Ludens is the greatest video game track of all time. This song isn’t “okay” (see what I did there?) it is great.

One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be The One’s In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death (feat. Amy Lee)

This song is nostalgic, as I haven’t hear Amy Lee’s voice in decades. Bring Me To Life was the reigning metal song until Throne came out. This is the collab the metal world has been waiting for. Amy Lee takes control of the first verse and chorus and she does great. This is like an opera. This album is ending on an emotional route. The original vocalist comes back for the second verse and he isn’t yelling at me. His voice is actually beautiful here. The lyrics are great as well. I never thought an Amy Lee and Oliver Sykes duet would work, but it sure does. Oli has never proved himself more than now. The next chorus is a full blown duet and it is haunting. I can finally forgive Oliver for yelling at me throughout this album. It is as if this song is an apology to the victims of his screams. Right as I thought I was spared from being yelled at, the song ends with a yell. Oliver got the last laugh, as he yelled at me and then left. This is how the album ends.

POST HUMAN: SURVIVE HORROR VIEW – Final Thoughts

Overall POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR is great. I say this because they warned me that it would be a horror, and that I would have to survive. Well I survived! I give the album a 10/10. It delivered what it promises whether I enjoyed being yelled at or not. This album delivers 3 new Throne songs, and I got my death metal fix along the way. Bring Me The Horizon has always been a great heavy metal band, but this time they brought the death metal. Great job Bring Me The Horizon! Now next time don’t yell at me so much please. I am sure the fans would appreciate less yelling.

The Haunting Of Hill House Review: It Isn’t Even That Scary

The Haunting of Bly Manor released on Netflix earlier this month. Although the latest installment is finally here, we will be looking at The Haunting of Hill House. The original series released to critical acclaim, but before we compare The Haunting of Bly House to the original, we need to look back on Hill House. Hill House was good, but was it scary? In our Haunting of Hill House review we break it down whether this show was good, scary or not.

The Weekly Review – The Haunting Of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House starts off confusing. The first episode is a crazy and scattered tale of five siblings and their parents. The episode isn’t scattered in a bad way, in fact it alludes to a concept frequently visited throughout the show. The next four episodes catch the view back up to where episode 1 ends. Each episode follows a different character and it excels at getting the view to care about that character.

The Characters of Hill House

Honestly every single character is great. Middle child Theo is a little overly edgy, but even she is still a great character. By the last two episodes Theo shares many moments that make her whole character make a lot more sense. Oldest son Steve can seem cold at times, but the show does a good job at showing why his patience is so thin, and why he harbors the feelings he has. The characters are greatly developed. Even the side characters who share little screen time are great. Nell’s late husband is likeable and kind, and both Theo and Luke make a “friend” a long the way. The acting is phenomenal as well, Really every performance is solid in this show. So besides the characters and acting, how is the show as a whole?

Is The Haunting Of Hill House Even Scary?

The Haunting of Hill House has its moments, but I was never scared. I wasn’t scared once. Episode 5: The Bent Neck Lady has a lot of eerie moments with the shadowy undead figure, but I wasn’t scared. Even the jump scares in the show don’t scare me. The last two episodes take place within the Hill House in present day, and the view gets to see a ton of undead. I wasn’t scared even during the last two episodes. It just isn’t scary to me.

I couldn’t sleep throughout the two days I took to view the series, but it was due to unrelated reasons. These reasons involved night terrors and nightmares, but not because of Hill House. I can assure everyone that it wasn’t because of the show. The show wasn’t scary enough to affect my psyche, it just wasn’t. Luke is followed by the creepy tall man, but he didn’t scare me. The clinically insane zombie with orange hair crawls at members of the family, but not even that scared me. Really nothing in this show scared me. I am brave and I am an adult, and television shows do not scare me.

The Story

The story is great. It isn’t scary, but it is great. There is some genius level writing within the show. Rewatching the series really illuminated all the blatant cases of foreshadowing within the show. None of it is really obvious too. It doesn’t spoil anything if you don’t already know. This is where Hill House really shines. The wonderful cast brings a wonderful story to life. The show seems grim at times, but the family moments are sweet. The ending could have been dark, but it actually ends on a high note. Hill House flirts with darkness and heart, and it succeeds in every way.

The Verdict

The Haunting of Hill House isn’t scary, but it is a great show. I am sure it could be scary to some people, but not me because I am a brave man. The acting receives a 10/10, and I give the story a 10/10, but unfortunately the scare factor is a 0. I give The Haunting of Hill House a total of 3.5/10. I have to subtract 6.5 points because it just wasn’t scary.

Marilyn Monroe: We Are Chaos, Does It Hold Up?

Marilyn Monroe released her new album “We Are Chaos” on September 11th 2020. The album was successful and considered a success. Now that the hype is gone, does it hold up? Here is our track-by-track review of We Are Chaos by Marilyn Monroe. These are our thoughts one month after the release.

Marilyn Monroe – We Are Chaos

Red Black And Blue

The title track starts off with more of a speech rather than a song. Marilyn Monroe puts on a manly voice and lets her thoughts loose. By the 2 minute mark the song picks up, transitioning from an intro to a full song. The industrial roots are all here. Marilyn Monroe hasn’t sounded this dark in years. This intro track has fans prepared for what the rest of the album has in store.

Don’t Chase The Dead

One of the big singles of the album. The song is still on Monroe’s top 5 on Spotify. The song seems to be here to stay, but we still have our thoughts on the track. Like the last track, this song starts of slow. This isn’t a bad thing to fans of Marilyn Monroe. Eerie beginnings are highly regarded across her discography. She still puts on her creepy voice here, and it works. The song is a new anthem for Monroe. Once the pandemic ends, the track will likely be a mainstay on live setlists here on out. The drum filled “breakdown” towards the end is great. Sounds like something to march to. The song still holds up. This was a major single thought, so does the rest of the album hold up? We will keep listening.

Infinite Darkness

Another song that starts with two minutes of creepy talking. A little tiresome after 3 tracks, but still pretty cool. The chorus goes hard on this track. Reminds me of the old Marilyn Monroe. The industrial electronics in the background following the first chorus is great. This song is an instant classic.

We Are Chaos

The title track of the album. The song features a clearer Manson. She still sounds pretty manly, but this is just straight up impressive. Less creepy, and more clear. A more refreshing song after 3 similar tracks. It is almost like a dark ballad. This song is very cool, and it still holds up. The ending is somber and calming, sad and crooning. This song is a great pallet cleanser.

Keep My Head Together

The vocals are quiet in this song. I almost thought it was a dark rave track with no vocals. Pretty cool ambience, but there isn’t much to say other than that. I think this song won’t stay in the spotlight, but not every song can be an absolute banger.

Paint You With My Love

This song is similar to the last one. I am not grasping the Marilyn Monroe here. I am starting to think this isn’t even Marilyn Monroe. I could buy it at first, but I am losing my interest quickly.

Half-Way & One Step Forward

Another song exactly identical to the last three. Marilyn Monroe still is hardly singing and still sounds like a zombie. What is going on here? Around the 2 minute 30 second mark the song gets a up beat techo sound in the background, but it doesn’t save the song for me.

I Give Up

I will be ending the track-by-track review now. I expected more from Marilyn Monroe. A cultural icon shouldn’t experiment this much. I respect the experimentation, but when every song sounds like a zombie, it just doesn’t work. Hopefully Marilyn Monroe goes back to her roots for her next album. Pumpkin Carving, Fun Family Activity or a Hellish Nightmare?

This week, my friends and I got together and carved pumpkins. Every year, as a Halloween ritual, I like to buy a big orange gourd and use a cheap carving kit to cut goofy faces. Carving pumpkins is a international tradition. Some people like to carve other Halloween inspired designs, such as bats and ghosts. Nonetheless, I’ve always stuck to a simple, funny face. As great as pumpkin carving is, it’s not all fun and games. Here’s an honest review of pumpkin carving.

Pumpkin Carving’s Best qualities

This activity is a great creative outlet. Pumpkin carving gives total freedom in a unique artistic medium. You get to create this beautiful jack-o-lantern and enjoy it’s flickering smile. However, since pumpkins rot quickly after being carved, you know it won’t last long. As sad as this is, the pumpkin’s short life span really makes you appreciate the art of carving.

Also, handing children sharp blades and having him cut take out aggression on pumpkins gives kids a safe outlet for anger. Many parents are afraid of their child exploding in a violent episode, resulting in potentially fatal injuries to themselves and those around them. Luckily, these violent outbursts will never happen during the month of October. We have pumpkin carving to thank for that.

The Evil Side of Pumpkin Carving

Besides the fun of actually carving the pumpkin, everything leading up to it is hell. There is no consistency with pumpkin prices. I went to three different stores for the best deals. Whole Foods has 2/$15, Alberstons had $6.99, and Trade Joes had $2.99. All these numbers had my head spinning. Not only were the prices confusing, there were many different shapes and sizes of pumpkin. This made the decision incredibly stressful and scary. After purchasing a pumpkin, Trader Joe’s had the audacity to not carry the pumpkin carving kit. What was I supposed to do with a pumpkin and no tools to carve?

I went to Albertson’s and Target as well, both also having zero kits. After being pushed to the brink of insanity, Ralph’s was my savior. They had plethora of carving kits, with different knifes, scoopers, templates, etc. I also got a flat tire driving from store to store. Pumpkin carving really can be a horrendous task.

The Boys Season 2 Review: The Good, The Bad, And The Unnecessary

The Spice Boys are back again. This time they come packed with more drama, betrayal, blackmail, and sex. No one could have been prepared for all the super hero sex contained in The Boys season 2. We aren’t just here to talk about the sex though. Here is our review of The Boys season 2, where we will discuss all of the good, all of the bad, and the unnecessary.

The Boys Season 2 Review: The Good

The Boys Season 2 does a lot right. Firstly, the characters are fleshed out well. In Season 2 we get to know them all much better. Arguably we don’t get to know Hughie any better, but we do get to hear him admit that he is a cuck, and that is fun. Each other character is fleshed out well. Mother’s Milk struggles with his family life, Frenchie explains what happened in his past, and Butcher is much more humanized. Even most of the supes get more humanized. The Deep struggles to be redeemed, Queen Maive fights for her own personal redemption, and Starlight goes rogue.

Secondly, the show utilizes its hour long length to its advantage. Television shows can develop characters much more efficiently than a movie can. The Boys took advantage of this, and left no characters untouched. Despite only being mentioned in Season 1, even lamplighter becomes a short lived fan favorite.

Lastly, the production value is high in The Boys season 2. Episode 3 has an epic fight scene that has characters flying through walls, and Episode 7 features a blood bath straight out of an HBO show. No one would be surprised if this footage was from a blockbuster movie. The team did great here. The Boys continues to blur the lines between television is cinema.

The Bad:

The Boys Season 2 suffers from a similar issue to the last season. There is a lot of filler between episode 3 and episode 6. The Boys don’t have a clear direction. In fact if Maive, Starlight, A-train, or The Deep didn’t sabotage The Seven, The Boys likely would have failed their goal entirely. This is where the show left me wanting more. I appreciate The Boys and their mission, but it felt disjointed and unplanned here. In Episode 1 of Season 1, Butcher seems to have everything going according to plan. Luring Translucent right into their trap. This doesn’t ruin the show, but I do hope to see a more confident version of The Boys in Season 3.

The other disappointment from Season 2 was Homelander. While still the terrifying villain we love to hate, he felt a bit tame. None of the atrocities within Season 2 are at the hands of Homelander. In Season 1 we see Homelander fail to save a plane, threaten civilians, kill his mother figure, and take Butcher’s wife. In Season 2 we don’t really get that. Other than seeing Homelander kill a Vought officer, we don’t get to see that brutal side of him. Stormfront definitely took the frontlines in Season 2. She killed Kimiko’s brother and broke his hands clean off. This is something I could see Homelander doing. The season ended with Homelander looking estranged, so hopefully he is at his worst in season 3. Regardless, Antony Starr plays Homelander flawlessly in season 2, so we will give them that one.

The Unnecessary:

The Boys Season 2 has a lot of unnecessary sex. We don’t mean like Dexter or Ozark status, we mean a lot of sex. None of it is watchable either. There is always a gross angle to the sex in The Boys season 2. We see Homelander blow himself (it is actually Doopleganger though). Additionally we see Homelander masterbate himself, and have sex with Stormfront about three times. Besides Homelander we also see Lamplighter was supe porn parodies, and we see cucky Hughie sleep with Starlight. All of it is cringe to the max. Regardless of whether or not they were aiming for the sex stuff to be cringe, they definitely succeeded. I watched the show with my Dad, and it was super uncomfortable seeing him get a boner every time Homelander drank milk. No one wants to see that. Watching a super hero show should be fun, not awkward. He was aroused almost every time Homelander was on screen, but the sex stuff made it even worse.

Yahtzee, Everyone’s Favorite Game To Hate; An Honest Review

Yahtzee, created by Milton Bradley in the 1940s, is a board game played across the globe. Although most find it to be a slow and uninteresting game, many families get together and play Yahtzee every holiday. There is a disconnect here. Why would families ritualistically play Yahtzee for weekly game night, yet most everyone agrees this board game is unappealing and unpleasant? Realible World News is here to give an honest, up close and personal, review. We dig to gain a deeper understanding of Yahtzee and its contradictive state.

Gameplay

Yahtzee is completely and utterly a game of chance, which is why it is so frustrating and unengaging. However, it also explains why families love the game. During family reunions, it’s important to involve everyone, even the dumbest members. A game requiring high levels of strategy or mental engagement would stop many dumb people from participating. That’s the first key to unlocking the puzzle of why everyone hates Yahtzee but can never escape it.

Here is a quick explanation of the game. Players take turn rolling five dice. On each turn, the player gets three chances to roll the dice to get the best combination of numbers. There are various combos to get, including small and large straights, three and four of a kind, and, most importantly, the Yahtzee. When a player manages to roll the same number on all five dice, they earn a Yahtzee, which nets the most points possible in a single turn. The game continues until each player has completed their scorecard.

Competition in Yahtzee

This game has practically zero competition between players. The players have no impact on each other, and, since there is no strategy, they have no impact on their own destiny. The player has a passive roll throughout the entire game. However, this is another reason families love it. Tensions run high during reunions; drunk uncle fight, politics clash, Grandpa drives home severely intoxicated, etc. Why have a competitive board game further pit people against each other? Yahtzee allows everyone to be on an equal playing field and hate the game instead of each other.

Cheating in Yahtzee

The one big plus side to this game is the ability to cheat. You can’t cheat while rolling the dice because, as you roll, everyone has nothing to do but watch you. However, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from writing whatever you want down on your own scorecard. Typically, at the end of the game, each player tallies up there own card and the winner is determined. If you master cheating, you will see a drastic improvement in your score and you’ll never lose again. That’s what makes Yahtzee a truly great board game.

In Summary

Yahtzee has all the makings of a bland, unpleasant board game. That’s why, on an individual level, no one enjoys Yahtzee. However, people always end up playing during family reunions. This is one of the few board games that caters to the lowest common denominator. Its mindless gameplay and low stakes make this a hit for any gathering. The cheating potential in Yahtzee is also a major plus.
